REPRESENTASI KOGNITIF MAKNA VERBA NON-FINITE GERUND DAN TO-INFINITIVE DITINJAU DARI TEORI SEMANTIK LEONARD TALMY

Abstract



Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis representasi kognitif dari makna verba non-finite yang menggunakan imbuhan "-ing" (gerund) dan "to-infinitive" dalam bahasa Inggris. Fokus penelitian adalah untuk menjelaskan perbedaan dalam representasi kognitif antara dua konstruksi ini, dengan merujuk pada teori semantik Leonard Talmy. Metode penelitian melibatkan analisis kualitatif terhadap data yang diambil dari berbagai sumber, berupa kalimat yang menggunakan verba non-finite dengan “gerund” dan "to-infinitive". Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan makna antara verba non-finite to-infinitive dan gerund. Perbedaan itu secara jelas muncul bila konteks kalimatnya diperluas dengan frasa atau klausa adverba. Pemahaman yang lebih baik tentang representasi kognitif konstruksi bahasa dapat membantu pengajar dan pembelajar bahasa dalam memahami perbedaan makna dan penggunaan yang tepat antara verba non-finite “gerund” dan "to-infinitive".
